Free forensic tool · 100% in-browser · Zero evidence upload

Reconstruct the crime scene with your own photos.

Transform geotagged photographs from the crime scene into an interactive map with animated route, walking avatar and evidence panel — without any image leaving your computer.

Why Locus is different

100% local evidence

Crime scene photos never leave your computer. GPS reading, image decoding and animation generation all happen in the browser.

Satellite map with route

GPS trail extracted from EXIF and animated on satellite map with walking avatar point-to-point.

Self-contained HTML animation

A single file that opens offline, with photos, animated map and evidence panel embedded — full animation of the scene dynamics.

Important notice

Support tool for forensic reconstruction. The generated animation, captions and conclusions are the exclusive responsibility of the signing forensic expert.

Free forever

A 100% free tool — and it will stay that way. Locus was conceived as a public utility for the forensic community: no subscription, no paid license, no premium tier.

No artificial intelligence

Locus is 100% deterministic: it reads the real GPS/EXIF metadata and timestamps from the photos and represents them exactly as they are. Nothing is inferred, estimated or "hallucinated" by models — what goes into the animation is verifiable, reproducible technical data.

Forensic Workflow

Three steps, from scene to animation.

No installation, no login, no evidence upload. Locus runs entirely in the forensic expert's browser.

Drop the photos

Select or drag the crime scene photos. Locus automatically reads GPS, date and time from HEIC, JPEG and PNG images — including iPhone photos.

Configure and caption

Select the scene type (Homicide, Suicide, Fire, Environment), fill in the reconstruction header, caption the evidence and mark forensic enlargements.

Download the animation

Export an interactive self-contained HTML. Opens offline, includes animated map with walking avatar, evidence panel with coordinates and full animation of the scene dynamics.

Segurança de Evidências

Non-negotiable principle: evidence stays with you.

The server only delivers the page. GPS, photos and animation are processed entirely in your browser — no evidence ever leaves your computer.

What Locus does, step by step

Every feature was designed to respect the chain of custody and produce high-fidelity visual animations.

GPS & EXIF

Automatic coordinate extraction

Extracts latitude, longitude, date and time from HEIC (iPhone), JPEG and PNG images. No manual entry, no configuration. HEIC support via WebAssembly.

Forensic Map

Animated route on satellite imagery

The route trail is plotted on satellite imagery with the expert's avatar walking point-to-point. Each point opens the panel with the photo and evidence data.

Animation

Offline self-contained HTML

A single HTML file with photos embedded as base64, institutional cover page, reconstruction header and annotated enlargements. Opens offline — complete animation of the scene dynamics.

Forensic technology born from real casework.

Locus was developed from real demands at the Integrated Forensic Post of Lavras/MG, Brazil. The need was clear: transform crime scene photographs into a traceable visual animation of the scene dynamics without compromising the chain of custody. Today it is freely available to all public forensic investigators.

Frequently asked questions

Questions about Locus? Find the answers below.

No. Locus runs directly in the browser — Chrome, Firefox or Edge. No installation, no plugin, no registration. Just access the link.
Never. All processing — GPS reading, image decoding, timestamp ordering, animation generation — runs in your own browser. The server only delivers the HTML page. No photo or evidence data travels over the network.
Yes. Locus uses WebAssembly (libheif) to decode HEIC files directly in the browser, without relying on external converters or cloud uploads.
Distributed under PolyForm Noncommercial License 1.0.0. Use by public safety, health, education and environmental protection agencies is expressly permitted and free. Commercial use is not covered by this license.
Locus organizes and presents GPS data, timestamps and photographs in a structured visual and animated format. The animation, its captions, interpretations and conclusions are the technical and legal responsibility of the signing forensic expert. The tool provides support — it does not replace the technical examination.

Forensic responsibility

Locus is a support tool. The generated animation, captions, measurements and conclusions are the exclusive responsibility of the forensic expert conducting the examination.
